How Sedation Supports a Comfortable Surgical Experience
Oral surgery can feel intimidating before it happens. What most patients find is that with proper sedation, the experience is far more manageable than they expected. Dr. Bennett is Moderate IV Sedation Certified, a credential held by a small percentage of dentists in Colorado, meaning he administers and monitors your sedation directly. You remain deeply relaxed throughout the procedure with little to no memory of it afterward. For patients with dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, or those undergoing longer procedures, this makes a meaningful difference in how you experience your care.
Wisdom Tooth Extractions
When wisdom teeth cannot erupt properly, they become impacted and create ongoing problems including pain, swelling, and increased risk of decay in adjacent teeth. Removing them eliminates the source of the problem before it worsens. Dr. Bennett performs wisdom tooth extractions using 3D imaging to assess root depth and position in advance, minimizing surgical time and protecting surrounding structures. Most patients return to normal light activity within a few days.
Impacted Canines
Canine teeth are critical to bite function and smile aesthetics. When one becomes impacted, it does not simply resolve on its own. Surgical exposure is performed to uncover the tooth and attach a small bracket, which orthodontic treatment then uses to guide the tooth into its correct position over time. Dr. Bennett performs this procedure with precision to minimize trauma and give the tooth the best chance of erupting successfully.
Bone Grafting
Bone loss begins immediately after a tooth is removed and accelerates over time. Without sufficient bone, implants cannot be placed and the shape of the face gradually changes. Bone grafting uses natural or biocompatible graft material to stimulate new bone growth at the site. The graft is placed during a straightforward surgical procedure and allowed to heal for three to nine months depending on its size. Most patients experience only mild discomfort during recovery.
Sinus Lifts
The upper back jaw naturally has less bone density than other areas, and when teeth have been missing for some time, the sinus can expand downward further reducing the available space. A sinus lift addresses this directly, adding bone volume to the posterior upper jaw so implants can be placed with adequate support. Healing takes six to nine months before implant placement. For patients who want to avoid a sinus lift entirely, zygomatic implants are an alternative worth discussing at your consultation.
